The trackIT system in
meadow breeder protection
The populations of many meadow-breeding bird species have declined sharply in recent decades. The population of black-tailed godwits in Germany has more than halved, the number of lapwings in Germany has fallen by 93% since the 1980s, the curlew was a common bird of raised bogs and fens until the 20th century and is now threatened with extinction. The low breeding success of these species in particular is preventing the populations from recovering.

The stationary receivers in the field enable live transmission of the recorded transmitter data, allowing the location to be determined around the clock with less interference. In addition, daily activity patterns can be derived from the received data and any loss of transmitters or predation can be determined immediately – including the time and exact location. The trackIT system is used to find out when and why the chicks die in the dangerous phase between hatching and fledging and what measures can be taken to increase breeding success. To this end, tRackIT Systems has been supporting projects in the Altmühl and Danube valleys since 2021, where the Landesbund für Vogelschutz in Bayern e.V. (LBV) is doing everything it can to protect the last curlews in Bavaria.
