“Technology with a Purpose”

Hessischer Rundfunk visited us and spent a day following our work. During their visit, the team from “Die Ratgeber,” led by reporter Katja Devaux, gained insights into our technologies and areas of application and summarized them in a wonderful segment. We’re delighted that new technologies in nature conservation are receiving this attention and would therefore like to share the segment.

What’s it all about?

Our stations capture animal calls and signals at high frequency and transmit them in real time. An AI-powered system automatically analyzes the vocal profiles—allowing us to track live whether a cuckoo or a Bechstein’s bat is calling in the Vogelsberg or whether corncrakes are on the move in the Wetterau. We also rely on automation for radio telemetry: Instead of walking through the terrain with handheld antennas as in the past, researchers now receive location data from tagged bats, birds, snakes, and amphibians directly on their screens every second. Whether for the Hessian Bird Protection Station, local construction projects, or nature conservation projects in South America, Africa, and Asia—our hardware and cloud solutions are now reliably in use worldwide.

Our Motivation

For our co-founder Jannis Gottwald and the entire team, trackIT is more than just a business idea: “We’re in the midst of the sixth mass extinction, and to effectively protect species, we first need to have a solid understanding of what’s actually happening out there.” Or as the report so aptly put it: Our goal isn’t to build “the next Netflix or Amazon,” but to develop meaningful technology that helps conservationists in their arduous work.
